Cassandre Louis Henderson:

Dear Irvington High School Scholarship Committee Alumni Association,

I would like to sincerely express my thanks for choosing me as one of the awardees for your amazing scholarship. In the beginning of my last year of high school I found myself in quite a dilemma. I realize that as I am not a permanent resident of the United States that I did not qualify to apply for most of the scholarships offered. Moreover, some weeks after I had decided which college I would be attending I found that I was not eligible for financial aid as I originally thought. I was devastated thinking that my parents might not be able to afford to pay for the schools that I wanted to attend for four years. When I first found that I could indeed apply for your scholarship I was ecstatic. On class day when the committee announced that I was one of the recipients that would be receiving the scholarship I felt as if I would burst from joy.

Ever since I found that I wanted to become an anthropologist college has always been on my mind. As the realities set in this past year I found myself thinking in some moments that it might not happen, that my dreams would be nipped at the bud. Your scholarship was one of the few that will allow me to be able to follow my dreams and attend college next year as it offsets the money that my parents have to pay. I look forward to starting my classes at SUNY Geneseo on august 24th pursuing my degree in Anthropology.

I would like to again thank the Alumni Association’s scholarship committee for awarding me this scholarship. It gave me the means to continue to follow the dreams that I have always had. I will continue to work hard in school to make sure that I do not let you down for believing in me. When I graduate from college I know that the committee will be among those I thank for my success.

Thank You so much,
Cassandre Louis Henderson

Monishka Pierre:

Dear Irvington High School Scholarship Committee Alumni Association,

In order to reach my goals, they require an ample amount of education and funds to make it possible. This is just the starting point, but in my eyes, everyday I am one step closer. If it were not for receiving the Irvington High School Alumni Scholarship, my goals would be delayed. I appreciate this so much, and this inspires me to do the same thing after I have become successful, return to my community and help the next generation to do the same. Again, thank you for the opportunity and path you have made for me. I will forever appreciate it.

Monishka Pierre
