Another Class Day! I never get tired of going back to Irvington High! Every year is a little different but what remains the same is the warmth and friendliness of the students, faculty and administration. We always sit in one of the first rows and as the students pass by us on their way off the stage many of them smile and say “thank you” to us!

Alumni attending this year were Joan Meyer Shannon ’55 and her husband Tom (who was a math teacher in Irvington for more than 25 years), Ed O’Keefe ’62, Clara Roth ’59, Vic Petriella ’59, Bob Roberts ’52 and Marion Monteverdi Roberts ’59 from Archbishop Walsh, Connie Smith Thomas ’60, Stan Mech ’62 (all the way from Las Vegas!), Tom Panitch ’56, and Margert Collins Rothman ’63 and Linda Coneely DeFranco ‘65.

JROTC was again present leading us in the flag salute. There were almost 20 senior students recognized by their instructor – Sgt. Craig – for serving in JROTC for all four years of high school. This is a tremendous commitment on the part of these students! One of our winners – Ashley Moreno – served with JROTC for three years.

I was so happy to see that the dance company was back! They performed two dances which were warmly received. This year the band did not perform but I did see on the IHS web site that there was a band concert in May with 36 students participating!

Several of the teachers and administrators mentioned in their presentations that the students should be very thankful that there are so many people willing to work to raise money for scholarships for Irvington High Students. Our three winners spoke to us after the awards and were very open, friendly and thankful to us.

Vice Principal Sean Davis, who was the Senior Class Advisor, ended the program with a quote from John Wesley that he directed to the students. “Do all the good you can . By all the means you can. In all the ways you can. In all the places you can. At all times you can. To all the people you can. As long as ever you can”

Another great day….hope you can come next year!

Notes from Awards Ceremony 2017

Each year we update our website and try to share with you the legacy that we are continuing by means of our scholarship program.  As you already know, we ask each class to contribute to this program and take pride in knowing that we are really "doing good" for future generations of students.  The scholarship committee has worked diligently to follow through with support, encouragement and pride in the program.  At the all class reunion that is held in June, members of the scholarship committee provide information on the progress of scholarship winners, their achievements and college experience.  So once again, the committee says a big "thank you" to all who participate in this program. Contributions can be made at any time, in any amount.  Check this home page (below) for donation information.  Remember, 100% of the donation goes to the scholarship program.
