Here is the
Introduction to Award Ceremony 2012
The Irvington High School Alumni Scholarship and Mentoring fund again presented scholarships to outstanding IHS graduates. The plan was initially to award one scholarship for $1,000 to be renewed each year the student is in good academic standing in college, with letters of recommendation from his/her professors. In the case of the past three years, the nominees have been so outstanding and the recommendations of their teachers and counselors so extraordinary, two scholarships have been awarded. These young people are involved not only in their community and their studies, they have visions and aspirations to become leaders in their schools and communities in the future. This year’s scholarships were award to Monishka Pierre and Cassandra Louis. Read more about their aspirations on our Comments and Letters page. See photos and videos from the 2012 award ceremony on our Video and Photos page.
Nancy Sieffert, the fund’s treasurer, wrote a summary of the events of the awards ceremony and you will enjoy reading her summary. The final moments of the ceremony were indeed special, as a young student sang the school anthem with a voice reminiscent of an opera star!
We tried the video again, to give you a sense of the proceedings. While we are not professionals at taping, this may give you a sense of nostalgia as you remember awards ceremony in that very auditorium. View the Video for the 2012 Ceremony.

An additional member of the IHS community has joined the scholarship committee. So, we welcome Arthur Sudfield of the class of 1957 to our team. “Sam” as Arthur would like to be called has his bio on our member page. Also, we would like to add a sincere note of memory to the family of Alex Trento of the class of 1960. Alex was the founder of the scholarship, and though he could not be a member of our committee due to health issues, he was often in communication with us and made valuable suggestions and gave encouragement for our mission. There would be no scholarship if not for Alex. He will be deeply missed.
