Introduction to Award Ceremony 2013

The Irvington High School Alumni Scholarship and Mentoring fund again presented scholarships to outstanding IHS graduates. The plan was initially to award one scholarship for $1,000 to be renewed each year the student is in good academic standing in college, with letters of recommendation from his/her professors. In the case of the past three years, the nominees have been so outstanding and the recommendations of their teachers and counselors so extraordinary, two scholarships have been awarded. These young people are involved not only in their community and their studies, they have visions and aspirations to become leaders in their schools and communities in the future. This year’s scholarships were awarded to Shirlena Coke and Na'imah Spells. Read more about their aspirations on our Comments and Letters page. See photos and videos from the 2013 award ceremony on our Video and Photos page.

Nancy Sieffert, the fund’s treasurer, wrote a summary of the events of the awards ceremony. You will enjoy reading her summaries.
